Can Road Salt Corrode Alluminum

Linux Mint 5 Elyssa Community Editions (KDE)

After a while I resume my writing on this little blog to report a pleasant discovery: Linux Mint 5 Elyssa
Community Editions (KDE desktop)
L 'I tried it in Live el' I immediately installed on my test mule (an old PIII 800Mhz spinning like a train ..... but only with Gnu-Linux of course!) . The graphics are very attractive and above all, a really nice menu, original and funny (and usable!) I was really impressed. This directly derived from Kubuntu distro I had already affected by the version 4.0 but now I really believe it enough to put in "standby" ready to be installed on my new Acer laptop.

clear right away that there is nothing extraordinary compared to the other (in fact, does not even sound pulse and uses KDE 3.5.9) but what he presents it really well and makes it work especially well. In fact, besides to 'original application menu using various management tools very well made as XAMPLE MintUpdate MintInstall and whose names are already self-explanatory. He also Gdeby for debian packages and Envy for proprietary drivers. United States, like previous versions, the repository of ubuntu (in our case ubuntu 8.04) but has one more chance, connecting to the web page www.linuxmint.com can exploit a specific repository Mint called "portal software. They are installed by default most of the video and audio codecs, and then immediately able to play MP3s and watch movies and DVDs without downloading codec "strange", you can also install the packages of Italian for all the tools the distro (or almost!) does not, however, as all the latest distro, the pulse audio server, which I imagine will be included in the next release, what will be referred to ubuntu 8.10

For the more "technical "I can say that the distro, live and installable software has among its holdings:

KDE 3.5.9 OpenOffice 2.4
Firefox 3

Linux Kernel 2.6.24 Xorg 7.3.

For the less technical but I can say that the distro ........ you cunt!
Try it!

Contemporary Christmas Songs 2010

Puppy!

here we are talking about a distro very interesting, useful and .... nice to see!

Puppy Linux is a distribution live and installable developed by Barry Kauler, the current version has been completely rewritten and is not derived from any other distro, then do not talk about clones of Red Hat or Debian but a distro with its particularities combined with a brand new 2.6 series kernel. He
very small, is very light in terms of employment of Ram and has also a window manager as simple and lightweight ( JWM) and that is why it is much used by those who want to "revive old hardware with limited RAM and processor dating in this specific field Puppy at its best if we can make operational real "water heaters"!

The entire operating system and all applications run from RAM, making it possible to remove the disk after the system has been loaded.
settings like any other live distro that respects can be stored on USB memory stick or on a special file 's hard drive, even where there is a partition in Windows.
Puppy takes no more than about 90 MB and can therefore also be used by old or 128 MB Memory Stick can be burned to CD mini 8 cm!

has a good software bundle, even if not the most celebrated programs of other distros eg. But uses OpenOffice Abiword. How to use Opera Web browser. You can
install many programs and last but not least Puppy Linux Live is one of the few distributions able to save files to the CD itself through the distro in multisession burning, which allows users to store data, add programs and customize the settings, always using the same CD.

I highly recommend to all who have an older laptop or a stationary PC incompatibility with new versions of Windows (bleah. ..!) To try Puppy Linux before throwing machines that could still give some satisfaction to write documents or surf the Internet.

The current version is 4.0 "Dingo" which occupies about 88MB and you can

download it here Enjoy!

Relapsing Fever And Dengue

News Autumn 2008 ... OpenSUSE 11.0

This fall promises to be "hot" in terms of the GNU-Linux distros, many of historical distros are going to release the latest versions (or releases).

Expect a roaring time in October, which has already announced a series of distro releases of "minor" as one can easily see on distrowatch.com.

All the fans are waiting with anticipation to the next release of Debian presenting his Lenny with 5.0 series kernel 2.6.26, X. Org 7.3 but no particular novelty in supported versions of the two major interfaces frafiche that is "proven" Gnome 2.20 el 'latest version of KDE 4 before the revolution, that is 3.5.9

We then test the new Mandriva 2009 instead be presented with the new KDE 4.1 or the 'last Gnome 2.24, the 2.6.27 kernel series a lot of improvements in the control center el' last "cry" of Firefox ie the vers. 3

We also are pleased to "play" with the "Intrepid Ibex " ie the version 8. 10 the most popular distro of the moment: Ubuntu . Anch 'it comes with the 2.6.27 kernel the new Gnome 2.24 KDE 4.1 a new version of Compiz installed by default with dozens of new effects and last but not least a brand new graphic theme!

Finally we wait for the Fedora 10 with kernel 2.6.27, Gnome 2.24, KDE 4.1, X. Org 7.4 a "strange" tool based on the WEB to install software (I do not like at all solutions like that ...) as well as several other useful tools for security and data recovery

So we are all "anxiously" waiting ......

Hide Plumbing Pedestal Sink

gladly publish an article on Distrowatch OpenSuse , a distro that does not stretch frequently (tested only once a couple of years ago) , at the request of a couple of friends who use a version to work (Enterprise)

The birth of OpenSUSE dates back to 1992 when four of Linux enthusiasts - Roland Dyroff, Thomas Fehr, Hubert Mantel and Burchard Steinbild - launched the project which was called SuSE (Software und System Entwicklung) Linux. In the early days, the young company sold in a set of floppy disks, the German version of Slackware Linux, but it was not long before SuSE Linux became an independent distribution with the launch of version 4.2 in May 1996. In the years following the SuSE developers adopted the RPM package management system and introduced YaST, a system of system administration in graphical mode. Frequent releases, excellent printed documentation, and the widespread availability of SuSE in stores across Europe and North America, resulted in the increasing popularity of the distribution.

SuSE Linux was acquired by Novell, Inc. in late 2003. Big changes in the development, licensing and availability of SUSE Linux followed a little later - YaST was released under the General Public License, the ISO images were freely distributed for public download, and most importantly, the development of the distribution was opened to public participation for the first time. Since the launch of the openSUSE project and the release of version 10.0 in October 2005, the distribution became completely free in every sense. The code of openSUSE is now the basis for all commercial products of Novell, originally called Novell Linux, later renamed to SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server. Today

openSUSE has a large following of satisfied users. The main reason why openSUSE receives gratification from users are cleanliness and beauty of desktop environments (KDE and GNOME), excellent system administration utility (YaST), and, for those who bought the boxed version, one of the best written records available today. However, the recent agreement between Novell and Microsoft, which apparently recognizes the rights of intellectual property of Microsoft on Linux, has resulted in a welter of condemnation by many Linux personalities and has convinced some people to change their distribution. Although Novell has disregarded the agreement and that Microsoft has not exercised any rights, this event remains a thorn in the eyes of many companies Linux Community.
  • Pro: Configuration Tool understandable and intuitive large repository of software packages, excellent infrastructure of the website and printed documentation
  • Cons: Novell has partnered with Microsoft in November 2006 that legalized Microsoft to hold rights to Linux, the graphical procedure in the management and administrative the desktop is often seen as clumsy and slow "
  • package management software: Graphics YaST and the command line with the use of RPM packages
  • Available editions: openSUSE processor 32-bit (i386), 64-bit (x86_64) and PowerPC (ppc) SUSE Linux Enterprise for i586, ia64, ppc, s390, s390x and x86_64, and even a live DVD edition does not install

beautify GRUB?

As we now know all the "little program" that allows us to choose to leave our beloved distro GNU-Linux or "that 'other OS' is called Gr.UB ( GRand Unified Bootloader ) .

Its operation is very simple but its interface is very simple and merely present a list of kernels on a black background anonymous (you can also change the colors but the background will always uniform) .

to beautify and personalize some of our menu can start with a few commands, change the background by inserting an image to our liking that is called in slang: splashimage . Unfortunately
's image can not be those in high resolution and with millions of colors but MUST necessarily be size, type and number of specific colors Gr.UB otherwise not be able to display it:
  • resolution
  • 14 colors Size 640 x 480
  • format. xpm.gz
It Accordingly, once identified, 'image that we like we should give him some small "aggiustatina" with Gimp (or another graphics program that has the same functions ...) . So

: (*)
  1. Take the 'image of your choice and open it with Gimp
  2. Resize to 640 x 480 pixels
  3. Go to the menu "Image"> "Mode"> "indexed color"
  4. Click "Generate optimum palette" and the "maximum number of colors set 14.
  5. Now do something that almost no one says that but I think it's important darkened and contrast your image quite a bit written otherwise grub will blend with your background.
  6. Now save with the option 'save as "Select the" XPM "
  7. in a shell the following command: sudo gzip vostra_immagine.xpm (**)
  8. take your file and copy it in / boot / grub using this command: sudo cp vostra_immagine.xpm.gz / boot / grub / splash.xpm.gz (change name for convenience).
  9. Now go into / boot / grub where you will find your splash image and open the file menu.lst . To do this you use the buttons Alt + F2 and type: kdesu kate / boot / grub / menu.lst if you have kde, gksu gedit / boot / grub / menu.lst if you gnome
  10. Find the line: comment it out with a (***) # put in front and just below type the following: splashimage = ( hd0, 0 ) / boot / grub / splash.xpm.gz ( ° )
  11. save everything and restart your PC, if all went well you should see something soon Gender:

FACT, HAVE FUN!

(*) use sudo because it is used by ubuntu distro that is more widespread, but those who use debian like me or others not just because it obviously needs to enter as root.
(**) You can also use the command line using the tool convert and avoid having to open gimp:
convert-geometry 640x480-colors 14 vostra_immagine.jpg splash.xpm gzip splash.xpm
(***) So the operating system of choice does not start automatically, but most will wait until you position yourself on the kernel of your choice (with the arrow keys), and give ENTER.
( ° ) Be careful not to leave space between the closed parenthesis and / boot. hd0, 0 supposed to have linux-gnu on the first partition of the first disc if you have your stuff installed on the second partition of the first disc you must write hd0, 1 but if you have your stuff on First partition of second disk write: hd1, 0 and so on, for more info, I refer you to my article on grub on that blog

Will Lcd Prices Drop?

Gentoo 2008.0!

E 'was released a few days ago' other popular distros: Gentoo Linux 2008.0 (perhaps the least Newby oriented, that is perhaps the most difficult for new users of GNU-Linux)
His code name is rather strange (who is not?) ' ' It's got what plants crave ' '!
This version contains several new features including an updated version of the tool installer, improved hardware support and the usual hear hear Xfce instead of GNOME on the live CD!.

The Live DVD is not available for x86 or amd64, is expected to become available shortly.
The release also includes updated versions of many packages already available in 'tree ebuild.
's installer has been updated so that now only possible by network installations using the packages and ebuild on the Live CD. The 2.6.24 kernel is the latest to which were added many new drivers for hardware released since the 2007.0 release

's announcement of new releases: Release 2008.0

Redheads Wearing Red Lipstick

Linux Mint 5 Elyssa R1

E 'for about three weeks that one of my favorite distro has been released in the latest version of the 5 (codename Elyssa).

The most important new (besides the fact that as you know is based on Ubuntu 8.04) are an improved management interface installation and management software with MintInstall and MintUpdate and a very useful feature (it seems that I have read my mind!) della quale spesso nei sistemi con sudo se ne sente la mancanza, cioè la possibilità di lanciare un file browser che abbia le proprietà di root, utilissima per i newby ma anche MOLTO pericolosa:
You can now open a folder as root by right-clicking on that folder and by selecting "Open as root". This is a powerful but also a dangerous feature. A warning message will remind you that you're in root mode, a file browser called XFE will appear (the reason for it not being Nautilus is precisely because it looks different. This way you can associate the different look and feel with the fact that this application is run as root). From there on you've got unlimited powers so be careful because everything you launch from XFE, you launch as root.
Attention guys, root can do anything ..... irreparably also delete system files or directories full mp3 of those who have both struggled to find .....
In general it's a distro that most fascinates me for its special menu and its graphical themes always very beautiful.

Fedora 9!

But then they do not want to just stop?! But will they go?!
A series of impressive innovations have characterized the 'output Fedora 9, one of the most popular distro and performance of' universe Gnu-Linux, sponsored directly by the giant of the world Gnu-Linux: Red Hat !

Starting from 'inclusion of' KDE4 now famous (in addition to the classic gnome 2.22) innovations include a new interface for installing and removing programs called PackageKit, a new management of network connections via the new network manager including a specific part for the wireless and cellular modems (it was now, we hope that others will follow the 'example, you know Mr. Shuttleworth?) addition to the new interface for managing security aspects of call PolicyKit.
Obviously these are the most dramatic change, but there are many more, just follow the link in the title of my post and read the release notes ....

Clear Record History Direct Tv

The structure of directories in GNU-Linux ifconfig

When one draws close for the first time in GNU-Linux and a "peek" out of their "directory" or "folder" user (which is located inside the / home), you are faced with a "forest" of directories (or folders) often incomprehensible names and hiding who knows what mysteries "........
This explanation, which comes directly from the wikipedia page on 'argument, there should be some clear ideas about the function of all the directories and why many of those are not accessible to "normal users" (which most geeks Abusive call "utonti"!)

.

Directory Structure on Unix-Linux
(Filesystem Hierarchy Standard)

Directory ............. Description

/ bin / .................... binaries for all users (eg, cat, ls, cp)
/ boot / .................. File Boot loader (eg, kernel, initrd)
/ dev / ................... File device (devices) (eg, / dev / null)
/ etc / .................... File System Configuration (from et cetera)
/ etc / opt / .............. configuration file / opt /
/ etc/X11 / ............. configuration file of the X Window System, Version 11
/ Etc / sgml / ............ Configuration files for SGML.
/ etc / xml / .............. Configuration files for XML.
/ home / ................ Folders contain personal information.
/ lib / ..................... Libraries essential for the binaries in / bin / and / sbin /
/ mnt / ................... temporarily mounted filesystem (obsolete in many distros).
/ media / ................ mounting locations of CD-ROMs and other devices (USB memory stick, etc.).
/ opt / .................... Packages static software.
/ proc / .................. virtual filesystem that shows status information about the kernel and
active processes, mainly contain text files (eg, uptime, network)

/ usr / ................... Secondary hierarchy for data read-only and sharable (unix system
resources). This directory was created to be shared between the host and not must contain specific data.
/ usr / bin / .............. As the / bin /.
/ usr / include / ......... File Header (by "embedding").
/ usr / lib / ................ As the directory / lib /.
/ usr / sbin / ............. As the folder / Sbin /.
/ usr / share / .......... data (shared) architecture independent.
/ usr / src / .............. source code (source code).
/ usr/X11R7 / ........ X Window System Version 11 * R * * 7 *. Elease
/ usr / local / ........... Third hierarchy for local data, specific to "this" host. Moreover,

rather confusingly, / usr / local is the location for packages that do not are part of the distribution, such as packages that are compiled and installed from source.
/ var / ................... File Variables such as database logs, web sites, temporary files and e-mail.

Where Does Phlegm Sit In Your Throat

ifconfig-a command shell that allows you to configure and view the settings of the card / and network.
-The command syntax is:
ifconfig [interface] address

options - Options: Some of the options we can go to the command are:-a

Show all interfaces network with its features, even if they are set down (inactive)
-s Shows a short list
-v verbose mode, it also indicates if there are errors
-up Enable network interface
an Off-down '
-network interface netmask 'address' Sets the address of the netmask
-broadcast 'address' Set the broadcast address
.
Examples: If you want to see the network setup data after the previous command, just give the command: ifconfig

How Long Can I Keep My Cake Mate Icing

packages? Programs?

I was asked recently to do some sort of presentation to the linux-gnu "total beginners", this has resulted in a presentation in a few points that I used to do an overview of this fantastic world of 'open source and Gnu- Linux in particular, the notes I will propose in this and other articles are not meant be of any further explanation or just want to be detailed but simple descriptions to keep off a Gnu-Linux also people who have never heard of, d 'Besides, the blog you are now reading is dedicated to people who are new to this world for first time, and not the most experienced and savvy "geeks" command-line .....

Installing programs

- In a GNU-Linux programs come in two different ways:

1) "Source Files" to be filled and install the "proper" car.

- Pro: The program provides better performance because it completed the compilation process takes account of the processor and the hardware features of the machine on which it is installed.

- Cons: To compile programs on your machine, you need all the libraries of the programs and accessories that are needed to successfully build the executable program in object, you must also know what are the right options give the compiler to optimize the compilation process on your machine, often compile times are very long.

2) " prebuilt packages " downloadable from the special "repositories" in a standardized format through special programs will install automatically in all the files and the libraries necessary for the proper functioning of the program in question.

- Pro: You do not need any kind of computer knowledge, everything is resolved automatically and transparent to the user ', just a good Internet connection and you can install all the programs you want in seconds.

- Cons: To ensure that the "speed" on all types of hardware (processors) the package is pre-filled with a number of generic options that do not would certainly enhance the performance of the same. Some essential parts (additional kernel modules, new custom kernel & initrd.img) must still be completed locally.

-L ' extension of these "packages" varies according to Linux distributions that use it, and all debian derived systems (eg Ubuntu) uses. Deb and Red Hat, Mandriva, fedora, suse and several others use the. rpm, but there are also other less common formats (the. slackware tgz for eg.)

- There are now nearly every major distro , of graphical tools that reduce the installation process and / or uninstall a few mouse clicks. Synaptic, yum, urpmi, are some of the most used, are based on command-line tools like apt-get or rpm.

Toronto Bulk Callebut Chocolate

Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron

And yes, the Hardy Heron has finally been released that promises sparks wonders, trick track and cotillion!
Jokes aside, there are enough news to consider quite different from previous ones. The most significant are the new version of Firefox (the 3) with a new management and a higher ram speed, the new Pulse Audio sound server (Subject of another post) that promises to make obsolete the "old" servers like ALSA, etc. etc. From
praising its stability, which is also quite popular with other distro I could not find even the famous graphic effects seem to be far fewer problems in 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon. Well it seems that this time Canonical has done a lot better than the previous release something new, but buggy and not very efficient (I have not found obvious defects when used "normal").

Prices Of Shipping From Vietnam To Usa 1 Pound

connect our Motorola L6?

without even spending a figure for ' purchase of a cable next to useless?

Last night I set about making "operational" one that I had PCLinuxOS 2007 on a CD of a magazine (I have 4 partitions on a PC that I use to highlight, if no proof were needed, that it is incompetent in on GNU-Linux!) After ' installation (the one that I can do!) arose the problem of internet connection for downloading additional programs that surf the web.
The first problem that occurred is that my usual I DO NOT HAVE THE INTERNET AT HOME! (weird right? For a Linux enthusiast, but the challenge is not!) Then massively use my trusty mobile phone GPRS, not having the speed of lightning (the average speed is slightly higher than a traditional 56k modem!) often forces me to leave everything on all night 'the ambaradam "in order to update the distro I use, for example. a couple of weeks ago having to upgrade my Ubuntu 8.04 alpha4 I had to hold on for around 16 hours! But using linux 's reliability is guaranteed and everything went "smooth as the' oil ' (there was a smiley with the' wink ...!)
To my great disappointment the 2007 version of PCLOS Gnome does not have Bluetooth installed (!), and just to be honest did not do it wvdial gnome-ppp so useful to connect through a simple modem (in my case the phone) , so I had to stick my neck out a little 'genius ......

Having to download another distro with the necessary files I purposely left out the Bluetooth that would have required a lot of programs and libraries to install various dependencies including and I focused on the possibility of connecting via a cable to the phone. Then I looked around my messy desk to find something that did in this case was excellent because my Motorola L6 has an "attack" standard MicroUSB.
I thought that once you plug it wanted only a simple dmesg to see if the modem was recognized by the mobile distro e. ...... Bingooo! Using a simple USB cable
> MicroUSB (mine was supplied with a digital camera Olympus C4000) functionality is perfect!
the command dmesg showed me that the modem was connected to port / dev/ttyACM0 (then me strangely connected to him / dev/ttyACM1! Little harm if it is not the 'one' s the other!) I then foreseen Within a the downloaded gnome-ppp and wvdial (with a couple of libraries required) .

Once you have downloaded these programs (I used this website: rpm.pbone.net) , with the rpm command -Ivh 'nome_file.rpm I proceeded to install them.
In two minutes, after gnome-ppp properly configured with the parameters of the cellular modem (the famous / dev/ttyACM0) and with data from the "phone company" (phone number and initialization parameters) the internet connection was active and running!
As an additional "feature" with our cable fortune while we are connected we can also recharge your mobile phone!

Infant Urine At 5 Months

Linux Mint 4.0 Ubuntu

As my practice, I propose a distro quite "user friendly", I'm talking about Linux Mint (4.0 hours is the code name Daryna ).
On its website (En) we find that initially began as a "fork" Ubuntu but then he developed a philosophy aimed at ease of use, even more than Ubuntu itself (and there will!).

mentioned on the site can download the Main Edition Gnome Gui or beta versions with other Gui defined as XFCE, KDE or Fluxbox, most recently the development team has produced a version based on Debian etch (which I will try as soon as possible !).

Linux Mint offers attractive graphics a bit dark (!) And a menu very similar to that of opensuse to 'start will leave a bit disoriented, but then immediately reveal their strengths.
